ABOUT US

Welcome to Limehouse Studios

Architecture grounded in experience, technical rigour and thoughtful design.

Limehouse Studios Inc. is an Ontario-based architectural practice founded in 2017 and led by Lee Clarke, Architect (OAA, ARB). The studio brings more than 20 years of professional architectural experience to the design and delivery of projects across the public, institutional, commercial, industrial and interior renovation sectors.

Since its founding, Limehouse Studios has completed more than 40 renovation, rehabilitation and fit-out projects across Ontario, representing over 150,000 square feet of constructed work. Our portfolio includes office and administrative facilities, laboratories and technical environments, industrial buildings, healthcare spaces, fitness and performance facilities, retail environments and adaptive reuse projects.

Built Around Existing Buildings

Much of our work takes place within existing and occupied buildings, where architecture must respond to far more than the design brief.

Operational continuity, existing building conditions, code compliance, accessibility, phasing, constructability and the integration of new building systems all influence the success of a project.

This experience has shaped our practice.

We specialize in the assessment, design and technical coordination of renovations, rehabilitations and facility upgrades, particularly where the constraints of an existing building demand careful investigation, disciplined documentation and close coordination between architecture and engineering.

Integrated Project Delivery

Limehouse Studios routinely acts as Prime Consultant, coordinating structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection and specialty consultants from early design through construction.

Our role extends beyond architectural design. We provide the technical leadership required to bring multiple disciplines together into a coordinated and buildable solution.

Our services include:

  • Existing building assessment and feasibility studies

  • Architectural and interior design

  • Code and accessibility analysis

  • Consultant coordination and design management

  • Technical standards and specification development

  • Permit and municipal approvals

  • Construction documentation

  • Tender and procurement support

  • Contract administration

  • Construction-phase review and commissioning support

A Small Practice with Senior-Level Involvement

Limehouse Studios is deliberately structured as a focused architectural practice.

Projects receive direct senior involvement throughout their development, allowing design decisions, technical coordination and client communication to remain closely connected. This approach gives our clients the responsiveness of a small studio with the professional discipline required for complex multidisciplinary work.

We believe successful architecture is not simply about creating compelling spaces. It is about understanding how buildings are constructed, how they operate, how people use them and how thoughtful design can improve their performance over time.

That philosophy guides our work from the first assessment of an existing building through design, approvals, construction and completion.

Limehouse Studios — thoughtful design, technically resolved.

Lee Clarke

Principal Architect | OAA, ARB

Lee Clarke is the founder and Principal Architect of Limehouse Studios Inc., bringing more than 20 years of professional architectural experience gained across the United Kingdom, Bermuda and Canada.

Lee is a registered Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the Architects Registration Board (ARB) in the United Kingdom. His international experience has shaped a pragmatic and technically grounded approach to architecture, combining strong design thinking with an understanding of construction, consultant coordination and project delivery.

Before establishing Limehouse Studios in 2017, Lee developed his career working on a diverse range of residential, commercial, institutional and technically complex projects. His experience includes approximately eight years practising in Bermuda before relocating to Toronto, where his work has increasingly focused on renovation, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse and the transformation of existing buildings.

As Principal Architect, Lee remains directly involved throughout Limehouse Studios' projects, from early feasibility and design strategy through technical development, municipal approvals, multidisciplinary coordination and construction. He has particular experience navigating the challenges of existing and occupied buildings, where code compliance, accessibility, building systems, constructability and operational requirements must be carefully balanced with the architectural vision.

Lee holds a BA (Hons) in Architecture and Diploma in Architecture and maintains professional registration in both Canada and the United Kingdom.

His approach is founded on a simple principle: good architecture should be thoughtful in design, rigorous in its technical resolution and practical to build.
